This morning we all went to Pastor Utecht's church, with the exception of Jonny. Stephen was playing trumpet during worship, so we all wanted to see him play! Stephen was great! And so was Pastor Utecht. He gave a sermon on the importance of doing what you do, while always keeping in mind that you are working for God, not for man.
After the service, we ended up talking to Utecht for a couple minutes. He wrote down our names because he keeps forgetting them, then he asked if we had anything special going on for the next couple weeks. It's cool to see a guy who has so much on his plate already, take interest in what we have going on for the next week. As we left the church, his parting words were to ask him for anything we needed throughout the week. Really, really great guy.
When we left church, Stephen and I came back to Mission with Emily and Laura, while Jonny stayed in SF. Stephen had to make some calls for some tutoring that he's going to be doing with the school for the next couple weeks, and I wanted to read some more. I can't believe I've forgotten how much I love reading books. College textbooks nearly ruined me.
Around 3pm, Stephen and I made our way out to SF to meet Jonny and hang around with some kids. They were playing in the water by the time we got there and it was pretty evident that Stephen and I were not going to stay dry. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Right? Time to arm ourselves.
As Stephen hung out at Echo's house, Jonny and I walked over to Tony's to start filling water balloons. We were going to blast Stephen. It took us a while to get our balloons filled without them popping on us, but we finally made our way back to Echo's.
When we got there, everybody quickly took sides, and Stephen even caught a couple of Tony's water balloons, as he threw them, so the sides evened out even more. Jonny and I ended up merely sprinkling Stephen with water from our balloons. He's actually really fast... I'm not.
The rest of our day in SF basically consisted of playing in the water. It was wonderful. We were completely soaked before we left, but we also had enough time to dry before getting back into my car, so that was nice. We left SF around 4pm. We were all pretty hungry by the time we got back, so Jonny, Laura, and I made spaghetti. It turned out pretty good, for not having made spaghetti many times in the past!
Dinner was followed by an involuntary nap. Jonny and I both fell asleep around 8pm, which was kind of unfortunate. I was trying to read a book, so that made it almost more disappointing. We both woke up around the same time too which was weird. Then I continued reading, and Jonny just kinda hung out.
We ended our night with a group prayer, then Jonny and I watched Blood Diamond because we really weren't all that tired. Blood Diamond was a pretty crazy movie, but I will never shy away from learning something about this world, when there is so much I know nothing about.
Thanks for your continued support, and for taking the time to stay updated on what's going on out here!
In Him,
Brenden
Things I learned today:
1. Titus 2 has a lot of verses worthy of their own separate sermon.
2. Sometimes you just have to be cool and let things happen-- like getting completely soaked, without putting your swim shorts on first.
3. Acts 5
