Resolution/ Day 10

So if you have read my blog for Day 9, you know I ended the day really questioning if I was in the right place in regards to working with Eric on the Reservation. Because I was questioning if I was in the right place, I was also questioning if I was wasting my time working with Eric's crew. Today I think I found the answer.

My morning started a little later than usual, because I had a harder time getting out of bed. It was kind of cold in the basement again. But I made it up, did my devo's, read my bible, and ate breakfast all in time to leave for the office.

I got there right at 8am, and when I walked in, I saw Eric right away. He flashed the peace sign like they do out here on the rez, and I shook his hand... Like we do back home. I asked him how he was doing and he said he was pretty good.

Only a couple guys from the crew were there right when I got there so I waited around for about half an hour. Eric was running around and I was wondering if I should go talk to him about switching out of his crew and trying to work more in the office, before the rest of the crew got there.

I decided it was a good idea to at least try to talk to him about it, so I went downstairs and asked him if he knew what jobs were going on today. He said they were going back out to the fence site and he didn't know what else. I basically said okay, and went back up stairs.  I don't know why I didn't say anything more. But now looking back, I think I understand.

We left right before 9am to check on one of the trucks that was in the shop, but when we got there it was still closed. That sucks. So we drove back up to Rosebud, wasted some time talking to some of the guy's friends, then we went back to the offices to grab a purchase order for gas. Then we drove back towards Rosebud to get the gas. Inefficient.

After running around Rosebud, we had to go out to Mission to grab some wood posts. That took another hour, so we got out to the side around 11am probably. I don't exactly remember because I feel like it was earlier than that, but I didn't fall asleep on the way to Mission from Rosebud. It was a nice nap.

We worked at the site for an hour or two, and during that time, I caught a glimpse of why I couldn't get myself to say anything more to Eric about working in a different area today. While we were digging post holes, Ferg and I started talking about Ceremonies and Sun Dances and stuff, and he asked if I had ever been to one.

I told him I hadn't but I had been to pow wow's before in Saint Francis. He then asked if I believed in spirits, so I had the opportunity to tell him I believe in God and also demons and angels, but I don't know enough about that stuff to know if I believe in ghosts.

He told me some crazy stories about spirits in his belief who you can't see but you can feel and hear to an extent. I found that I was challenged by this situation, because I don't just want to go in there and tell somebody that what they believe in is wrong, but you also don't want to see anybody fail for their misleadings.

Another cool part of the day was when Sparky and I were driving back to the office from the fence site and I had the opportunity to asked him all types of questions and really get to know him better. Since this was the same guy who asked me why I came to the reservation, I felt really blessed to be able to get just a glimpse of why God led me to this crew and learn a little about Sparky's life.

So basically, looking back, I understand how it is that I couldn't say anything more to Eric earlier that morning. God's hand is in everything and it's so incredible to understand that reality in my life. With the knowledge of that reality, I am fairly certain that, at least for this week, I'm going to continue working with the crew to fulfill God's plan for my life to the best of my abilities. So cool.

We finished our portion of the work around 4:30pm, so I got back around 5pm. We had dinner and a team meeting, then I called my girlfriend and talked to her for a couple hours. That pretty much sums up my day. Bed time. Another early morning tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Sleep tight,
Brenden

Things I learned today:
1. Sparky could run faster than a golf cart in high school
2. Sometimes Jonny is violent. It's not often, but you should still keep an eye on him
3. God's plan is sometimes tough to see while you are immersed in it, but looking back, His hand is evident in each and every day you live to put Him first in your life.
4. John 1:39
