I had a feeling a day like this would come along. It's not a bad thing, but it's different. Different than the few days that I have already spent on the rez, and different than my typical day back home. I don't feel like I did a lot today. My day wasn't planned out before I went to bed last night, and as my day went on, I didn't end up making any more plans than I went to bed with.
This morning I was up a little later than I was hoping to be. I was too sore to work out, so I didn't miss out on too much by sleeping an extra half hour. I ate breakfast, while reading devos, then we prayed as a group before everyone went their separate way this morning. I went off to meet with Francis in Two Strike, Stephen wasn't back yet, Emily was leaving for a four day long camp of sorts, Laura went out to Okreek, and Jonny was going out to build a house with Greg.
My morning definitely started out well. I am the liason for a first time church that's coming out to the Rez during LJ Week, so I thought it would be a good idea to contact Francis who had keys to the Youth Center to make sure everything was in order. I met Francis yesterday over the phone, and it was really good talking to her. I had the opportunity to pray for her, because she had shared with me some rough stuff she was going through. So today was really just an extension of that.
When we met at the Youth Center, she brought me inside and she just talked for a while. I don't know what it is about her, but I could listen to her stories for a long time. She is so full of strength and she wants to do so much good for her community-- it's incredible. She told me she had been encouraging the community to meet the church group that I am working with when they come out to the Youth Center next week, and she said the community was excited to meet them. That was very encouraging to me. Ultimately it was a very fruitful meeting.
The rest of my day was spent working on LJ stuff. I organized all the churches into the dorms and worked with InDesign a little bit,. That was frustrating. I don't enjoy InDesign and I couldn't figure out how to get it to do what I wanted to do. Annoying. Ultimately, I spent a major part of my afternoon working on that.
Tonight we celebrated Emily and Audrey's birthday's with a bunch of people at Sarah's house. That was such a good time! I am hard pressed to find a group that I enjoy spending time with more, than my fellow brothers and sisters out here on the rez. They are such a great group of people, who are constantly an inspiration to me, because most of them live out here. I'm just here for 8 weeks. That's so crazy to think about.
So anyways, that's my day. I didn't do a whole lot, but today was another wonderful blessing from God.
Thanks for reading once again.
Sleep tight,
Brenden
Things I learned today:
1. Stephen has a lot of new words. A few of them are the following: wonky (i.e. that frosting is "willy" wonky), googly-woogs (i.e. I'll look it up on the googly-woogs!), and grit (i.e. why is googly-woogs stuck in your grit?)
2. Rough cut pork loins are juicier than smooth cut pork loins.
3. According to Apples to Apples, I am distinguished, idiotic, and juicy. That's pretty well-rounded if you ask me.
4. John 14:13
